Food of the week: Carob

Writer: Nolan T GapskeNolan T Gapske

What do you think about …. CAROB?

It’s been used for thousands of years as a sweetener, sub for chocolate, and even folk remedies.

It grows in pods on the carob tree and comes in many forms – most commonly dried, as powder or chips.

It’s also loaded with nutritional benefits.

It’s packed with fiber, contains a wide variety of vitamins (Bs, E, and K) and minerals including zinc, potassium, and magnesium.

TIP: It can be used in the same ratios in recipes as cocoa powder. But because it has a sweeter taste, you might want to reduce how much (if any) sugar you use.
